Instructions for use

Dear customer,

we are convinced that you have made the right decision – following the recommendation of your physician – to purchase the BIO-BATH appliance.

As the manufacturers, we are certain that you will not be disappointed, as, along with the BIO-BATH appliance, you have also been provided with a treatment method that has been in use since Roman times, currently at special institutions in your neighbourhood and elsewhere, all over the country. This is what you have taken home!

The effects of the CO2 bath

- the gas absorbed through the skin makes the blood vessels of the skin expand, skin temperature grow and the secretion of the sweat-glands and the venal back-flow increase,

-         the cardiac vessels will expand, the heart-rate and blood-pressure are reduced,

-         the kidney artery expands, with urine secretion increasing,

-         breathing becomes deeper, the circulatory performance is enhanced,

-         the blood supply of the limbs is improved,

-         the blood circulation of the brain is improved.

The following are excerpts of the opinion concerning the CO2 bath produced using the BIO-BATH appliance, given by Dr. József Gyarmati, head surgeon of the Saint Andrew State Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital of Hévíz, the institution conducting the clinical therapeutic tests of the bath:

-         “no perceivable difference was noticed between the traditional (central-distribution) and the CO2  bulb-operated carbonated bath;

-         the operation of the appliance can be easily learnt.”

As any other treatment, the CO2 bath also has its indications and contra-indications. This is the reason why you ought to undergo a medical examination before you start using the bath.

General indications: supplementary home therapy for patients under specialist medical control, suffering of high blood pressure and cardiac and circulatory problems as well as in cases generally accepted in physiotherapy.

General contra-indication: permanently low blood-pressure, the diseases of the organic neural system involving the loss of conscience, secreting skin diseases.

If your physician has not revealed any reason barring the CO2 bath treatment, you are free to use the appliance for your personal refreshment and for the maintenance of your health. However, the recommended bathing frequency is up to once a day.

Should you feel unwell during or immediately following the bath, please refer to your physician!

Before you start using the appliance, please consult the instruction manual closely, with an assistant. Please observe the instructions in the manual and the instructions of your physician when using the appliance and the carbonated bath produced with it.

Important:

-         do not use the device without medical recommendation!

-         always use the device covered with the bath cover, in a sitting position!

-         the head of the bather should always be over the rim of the bath!

-         the presence of a supervising person is required during the treatment!

-         appropriate ventilation should be ensured during its use!

It is recommended that:

- you try the operation of the device according to the instructions – preferably with your assistant present – ‘dry’, without letting in any water or gas, in order to see that you are able to operate the system smoothly when starting the real bath.

- before the first use, assemble the bath cover and store it assembled, if possible, or folded around the box in its original position next to the device if it needs to be disassembled after use.

- always store the gas bottles upside down, at room temperature, in their place inside the packaging even when empty.

How to use the device and the bath

1.      unscrew the shower head from the hand shower (if stuck, use a dry towel to get a firm grip on the flare nut of the hand shower and, holding the shower head at its end, it will screw off easily if you keep turning it left without forcing.

2.      screw the freed flare nut by hand – do not forget that you will have to unscrew it again – on the free bolt, designed for this purpose, of the appliance (this is the only free connection point on the appliance).

3.      position the appliance so prepared at the bottom of the bathtub with the drain-hole stopped.

4.      let warm, approx. 36 °C water flow through the appliance into the bath – the CO2 will reduce its temperature by approx. 2 – 3 °C – at medium flow-rate until the water reaches the top of the (conical) bulb guide of the appliance,

5.      after you have filled the bath with the amount of water specified above, screw on the specially designed, medically clean CO2 bulb through the bulb guide without turning the water off

Important, please note:

the bulb should be screwed on until small bubbles appear at the water surface at the front of the appliance. If you have screwed the bulb deeper, the bubble-production will be more powerful. In that case, simply loosen the bulb a little, until the required small bubbles have replaced the powerful bubbling at the water surface.

6. when the content of the bulb has passed into the water – this is indicated by reduced bubbling, within approx. 3 – 5 minutes – unscrew the bulb and turn off the water. The ‘BIO-BATH’ bulb manufactured by LINDE GAS HUNGARY. is equipped with a safety valve, specially designed for this application, which will prevent the outflow of gas even if you have removed the bulb at a time it still contained gas.

7. check whether the temperature of the bath prepared – generally 30 – 32 °C – is in accordance with the temperature prescribed by your physician. If it is too cold, let some warm water into the bath through the appliance or cool it to the prescribed temperature in the same manner with cold water if too hot.

It is important that the bathroom door is open all along and after the preparation of the bath and the treatment, in order to ensure proper ventilation. Remove children and pets from the immediate vicinty of the bath during the treatment, since the CO2 possibly passing from the bath, being heavier than air, will sink to the floor level and may accumulate near the bath. If the bathroom is aired properly, the gas will remain in that position for a short while only, soon diluted by air as the result of the ventilation.

8. remove the appliance from the water and get into the bath.

It is important that you take the bathing position as instructed by your physician and avoid any superfluous motion in order that as little CO2 is wasted as possible. The bath cover serves the purpose of keeping any CO2 emitted inside the bath, thus enhancing the efficiency of the treatment.

After you have taken the correct position inside the bath, it should be covered by your assistant.

When both pieces of the bath cover are in place, the two side covers attached to one of the bath covers are folded over, by both sides of the bather, on top of the other bath cover and arranged in such a way that they fully cover the previously uncovered area at the sides. That done, towels are placed around the bather on both sides. The bath cover rods will hold up the towels.

The whole operation, once rehearsed a few times ‘dry’, will not take longer than one or two minutes. It is important that the bather moves about as little as possible, trying to avoid disturbing the water.

9. After the expiry of the prescribed bathing period – normally 10 – 15 minutes – the cover removed and approx. one third of the water let out, the bather carefully gets out of the bath. Always hold on and use the help of your assistant while getting out of the bath.

10. after getting out and towelling, rest a few minutes somewhere comfortable outside the bathroom, sitting in an armchair or lying on a bed.

11. after the bather has left the bathroom, let out the water and air the room thoroughly. While airing, use a towel to drive out the gas possibly stuck inside the bath.

12. after airing, it is advisable to check that no gas is left inside the bath. This can be done by using a lighted candle, matchstick or lighter. Airing has been properly done if the flame held down the empty and aired bath is not put out even at the bottom. Should the flame go out, repeat the airing process described above.

Observing the above instructions, the treatment provided by the appliance will be effective without any risk involved at all.

Maintenance

The appliance and the bath cover require no maintenance apart from drying. If scaling is noticed, remove it by soaking in a thin descaling solution and washing. Do not dismantle appliance. In case if failure, it will be replaced at the place of purchase until it is repaired. But this requires that the appliance has not been previously dismantled. Make sure you keep the original bill and the Instruction Manual, which serves as the guarantee document as well.

The manufacturer guarantees three years of faultless operation.

After the expiry of the guarantee period, please refer directly to the manufacturer with any problem.
